iControl featured in Canadian National News

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (August, 2015) - NeuroWave Systems Inc. is pleased to congratulate University of British Columbia (UBC) researchers – Guy Dumont, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of British Columbia and Dr. Mark Ansermino, a pediatric anesthesiologist at B.C. Children's Hospital - on their iControl project being featured by CTV Canadian National News (http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/new-canadian-made-device-promises-personalized-anesthesia-1.2529913).

Drs. Ansermino and Dumont’s team developed the iControl-RP software tool, which automatically calculates dosing of anesthetic drugs based on the patient’s brainwave activity and vital signs, taking out some of the guess work associated with traditional administration of anesthesia. NeuroWave is particularly pleased with the fact that the UBC’s computerized anesthesia delivery machine is using our NeuroSENSE® brain monitor and its WAVcns index to measure the effect of anesthesia on the brain.

The iControl-RP is currently being tested in surgeries with adult patients, with early data suggesting it is equally safe as standard anesthesia delivered by the anesthesiologist. This tool for personalized anesthesia may also be particularly important for children since their responses to anesthesia drugs can vary greatly.

Dr. Bibian, NeuroWave’s VP of Engineering and Clinical Research stated: "It’s great to see that the exceptional research by the UBC team and Profs. Dumont and Ansermino receives a well-deserved attention. Here at NeuroWave, we look forward to further advancement of their closed-loop system. We are glad that they have selected our NeuroSENSE technology to be part of this innovative tool.”
